I like beaches, yesterday I read some cards about California, sent to one of our family members, maybe in the 1950.'s. I must research this a little bit more. The person who sent the cards visited New York and probably bought the cards there. His plan was to go all the way to California. He sends a photo of himself, made around the time he was 50 years old. In Finland he had left an timber cottage, quite large, but then he must have heard about gold in California like so many others, maybe ha also did not want to go to war, the frontier, to fight the russians, so he chose this other path, crossing the Atlantic ocean. Anyway, it is so strange to read those short lines he wrote in swedish. He must hijmself have been learning to speak American english and he knew his relatives in Finland would not be able to read anything but swedish, so he is explaining one or two words...
